Bought GuildWars from EBGames & no CD-Key in insert?
Hello,
I hope this is the right thread to post this in. I bought GuildWars from EBGames. When I opened it up, the insert in the jewel case had a silver scratch off saying to scratch off for the CD-Key. I lightly scratched and nothing happened, so I applied a little pressure and all the silver came off. There was no CD-Key under it. EBGames won't allow returns on MMOGs so I sent an email through GuildWars website yesterday for help. It said I'd hear from them in 24 hours, and I still haven't heard from them. I took a picture showing my receipt next to the opened cd case showing where the key should be at. Does anyone know if GuildWars people will be helpful and get me a CD-Key or if I am just totally out of luck and wasted my $50? Thanks for any help! ~Devon |

Wow. That is really weird that there was no cd key. EB Games should replace it do to it being a defective copy. I know that mine will do it for that reason.

Well if it has no CD key, it's a defective product as Fye Duron said, so it should not count as a return. You have your ground on getting another copy from EB or a CD Key from ANet. Have you tried asking EB about it? Or you just assumed they won't replace it because it is stated on the agreement?

Yea, when I called EBGames last night they told me that they would not take it back and I would have to contact the creator of the game to get a replacement key. If I don't hear from GuildWars by tomorrow, I will go to EBGames after work and try and get a manager to get a replacement.

if they refuse just tell them you aren't leaving until they rectify the situation. you're the consumer....you don't have a relationship with the manufacturer...the retailer does. Just refuse to move from front of the counter until they rectify the issue. |

With regards to the refund, it's faulty. nuff said. EB Have to exchange it as it's your consumer rights and it's faulty goods. One thing i will say though, if it looks as though the scratch strip has been tampered with in any way, i.e. looks like it has been removed by some other means other than scratching and ripped from the case, this may be seen as an attempt to steal the CD Key. I'm only saying that this is a possibility and not an attempt on your part to get a free CD key. |

look at it this way... if you biught the game from them and it has a large scratchin the Disc that prevented you from loading it on your PC they would replace the game for you there in the store. this is no different.

Hmm I can understand they can't take it back but I have never heard of retailer of not exchanging for the exact same title with receipt. I worked as a retail manager for several years before going into my current profession and I work weekends in Tech support for Best Buy and both places would/will exchance for the same title. What I am getting at is there maybe a break down in communication.
Are you asking them if you can return it or have you asked if you could exchange it for the same title? And make sure you are hearing what they are saying. Are they saying they can't/won't do anything or are they saying you can't return it (which means asking them "Can I at least exchange for the same title"). And unfortunately no there isn't any rights to this if you want to get picky. EB didn't manufactor the game, they only supply it. Now before we get into any type of debate, most retailers will work with consumers as most generally give a limited return time but as long as the retailer can't be proven to be fraudulanting selling defective merchandise with the intent to fool customers and they are following a guideline that is administered evenly to all customers and not showing bias for or against any particular group, you are pretty much at their mercy. Generally no retailer would be this stupid and allow something like this to go that far as bad press and bad PR isn't what they want. I didn't see it but you are returning/exchanging within the timeline of their return policy correct? If not your beef would now be with ANet. EDIT: Just talk to EB games 800 hotline (ya ok I was just curious) and the return/exchange policy is with receipt 14 days. Opened merchandise can only be exchanged for the same item. If the store is out of the item in question, you may be able to get store credit and if I understood the guy properly, the store credit I think is in the amount of whatever the buyback price would be for that store. If you fall within the 14 days, go to corporate launch a complaint. If you waited until after the 14 days to exchange, get with Anet as you are outside of the return policy. Of course you could still go the corporate route and see what that gets you. Last edited by Night; Jun 07, 2005 at 08:12 PM // 20:12.. |
